Flight Departures at Penang Airport

More than 7.2 million passengers used Penang Airport in 2017 alone and the numbers of visitors to this beautiful part of western Malaysia have been rising year on year.

Penang Airport Departures are advised to check with their airport for any delays or cancellations before check-in. The official airport contact details are

Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Penang, 11900 Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia, tel +60 (0) 4 643 44 11 and fax +60 (0) 4 643 5399.

Departures at Penang International Airport have a great choice of airlines for routes across South East Asia and beyond. The two main low-cost carriers operating out of the airport are Air Asia and Firefly, while regular charter and scheduled flights by airlines such as Cathay Pacific, China Southern Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, Alitalia, Wings Air, Thai Airways International go to destinations like Singapore, Medan, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Hong Kong, London, Jakarta or Guangzhou in China for example.

Passengers staying in accommodation in George Town, Penang’s capital city and the nearest largest city to the airport, have a number of bus services available that will take them to the airport. The Rapid Bus service as well as bus line U401 operate between the city center and the airport with regular buses throughout the day.

For taxi services at Penang International Airport departures should enquire at their hotel, where no doubt the friendly and helpful hotel staff will assist with a taxi booking to the airport. Penang Island is divided into 7 zones and passengers pay their taxi fare accordingly.

There are a number of well-known car rental companies operating out of Penang Airport and customers returning their rental car to their hire station, should make sure they follow the sign-posting in the airport compound to get to the right place. Some car hire companies have a “meet and greet” policy at this airport, because they do not have a rental counter in the terminal. Upon booking the car passengers should enquire where exactly and how they are to drop off the rental car and keys at the end of the rental contract.

Penang International Airport departures will find plenty of restaurants, cafeterias, shops and newsagents to while away the time prior to their flight. There is also a bank, a post office, a bureau de change and a first aid station within the single terminal building. Passengers wishing to go last minute gift shopping for friends and loved ones at home have Duty Free shopping facilities at the airport.

There is also a VIP lounge available for passengers with the relevant credentials. For a quick snack before hopping on the plane, passengers will even find a MacDonald’s located on the departure level.

Departures at Penang International Airport who travel by bus to the airport will be able to say a last farewell to George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage since 2008, and its 600,000 inhabitants on the way to the airport. Early risers won’t be able to snatch a quick meal from one of the wonderful Chinese Dim Sum stalls, because most street vendors don’t open their stalls until mid-day and most shops and restaurants are closed until then. The streets are almost eerily sleepy and quiet, compared to the hustle and bustle on Western roads in cities of this size.

The main bus station is on Victoria Street and passengers staying on some on the islets need to take a ferry to the terminal at Weld Quay (Pengkalan Weld), before they can continue their onward journey to the airport.
