Flight Arrivals at Penang Airport
Penang International Airport is Malaysia’s third busiest airport. Situated just 9.9 miles/ 16 km south of George Town, Penang state’s capital, the airport serves as transportation hub for western Malaysia and offers connections with major cities across South East Asia and the rest of the world.
In 2017 some 7.3 million passengers used this transportation hub and arrivals at Penang International Airport will be greeted by a modern, medium-sized airport which prides itself on fast check-ins and equally speedy baggage reclaim services. In the arrivals hall customers with a pre-booked car hire contract will be greeted by a representative of their car rental company, as Penang International Airport is a “meet and greet” type airport. See all the car rental companies available at Penang Airport here.
There are three major bus lines that take Penang International Airport arrivals to their onward destinations in George Town and a taxi stand inside the arrivals hall allows visitors to prepay their taxi ride, which is charged according to 7 different zone tariffs corresponding to the 7 different zones that make up Penang Island.
International renowned carriers like budget airlines Air Asia and Firefly operate alongside airlines like Malaysian Airlines, KLM, DHL Air, Garuda Indonesia, Cathay Pacific, China Southern Airlines, Wings Air or Thai Airways International. Penang International Airport arrivals come from destinations like Singapore, Medan, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Jakarta or Guangzhou in China.
Not far from the airport lies the Pearl Island Golf and Country Club, a favourite destination with business arrivals at Penang International Airport, who like to combine a visit to their multinational branch with a little leisure time golf.
There is only one passenger terminal building and there are two cargo terminals. In total the airport has 17 aircraft stands. The terminal building has 32 check-in desks, 8 air bridges, 11 gates and 3 baggage reclaim conveyor belt. There are a total of 808 short term parking spaces.
Inside the terminal building which serves both arrivals at Penang International Airport and departures, visitors will find a post office, a bank and a Bureau de Change, restaurants and cafeterias, bars and a VIP Lounge. There are also Duty Free shopping facilities, a newsagents and tobacconist, a gift shop and travel agent, a pharmacy, car rental desks, a first aid station and tourist information desk. The terminal building also offers business services in its Business Center and throughout the airport disabled facilities are available.
Penang is a fascinating place to visit and most travelers fall in love with the region and with George Town. People are friendly and helpful, the city is safe and the numerous colourful festivals held throughout the year make Penang one of the most exiting places to visit in South East Asia. As famous for its delicious street food as it is for its tolerance towards other religions and cultures, Penang is full of surprises and wonder.
Arrivals at Penang International Airport should consider car hire, as there is much to see and do beyond George Town and public transport, though reliable, cheap and safe, can take rather a long time, despite the fact that one of the major bus lines is called Rapid Penang!
